Join the local boot camps now

Germiston CBD and Sunnyridge are homes to two new free boot camps.

Looking to lose the extra weight gained from all the festive season treats or just want to keep in shape and stay healthy?

Why not dust off your running shoes, rinse your water bottle and join the local boot camps?

Sunnyrock’s Dee le Roux and Lambton’s Charmaine Nicoll started boot camps last year.

“There are two boot camps, one in Germiston CBD and the other in Sunnyridge,”said Dee.

“The one in Germiston CBD was started in February, by myself and Charmaine, and then in September I opened one in Sunnyridge.

“Both the boot camps are free of charge, we just want the community to have fun and stay healthy at the same time.

“Often you find people can’t afford to join the gym but want to keep healthy and lose weight which is why we offer this free service.”

Dee also told the GCN that more people are welcome to register and join.

“The camps closed in December last year, for the festive holiday,” she explained.

“Though we re-opened on January 10 for the first four-week challenge registration, we invite more people to come and register and join this fun initiative.

“We operate under a four-week time frame; after every four weeks we re-register existing members while also registering new members.

“Most of the members love it and register for every challenge.

“If anybody is interested in catching the first challenge, they are welcome to do so.”

Dee also said that the growth of the camps is motivating.

“The Germiston CBD camp started with 34 members and when we closed last year we had 120 members registered, while the Sunnyridge camp escalated from 41 to 100 members,” she said.

“We are hoping to grow even more.

“We currently have two trainers, Courtney Nicoll, who facilitates in Germiston CBD, and Cassandra le Roux, for Sunnyridge.

“The boot camp in Germiston is held at the Sanctuary of Light situated on the corner of Webber and Lindsay roads and the other boot camp is held at Sunnyridge Primary School Sports Grounds situated on Pitts Avenue, Sunnyridge.

“We appreciate the allowance given to us to utilise these premises.”

For Germiston CBD, the sessions are held every Monday and Wednesday from 6pm to 7pm and Saturdays from 7am to 8am; Sunnyridge sessions are held every Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm to 7pm and Saturdays from 8.30am to 9.30am.

“Among other things, we weigh and take all the necessary measurements when you first join and we take more measurements every four weeks to monitor your progress,” explained Dee.

“This is really becoming a way of life for most of our community members, so bring your whole family and join in on the fun.”
