First class boxing action

Hard-hitting action witnessed at African Ring's Christmas Cracker.

The greatly anticipated Christmas Cracker Box and Dine event took place at Emperors Palace on Wednesday.

Boxing fans witnessed first-class boxing action in the six bouts.

It was a night of technical knockouts (TKOs), as out of the six bouts four ended via TKO.

The Paul Kamanga vs Roman Zhailauov’s match was a greatly anticipated, as they were vying for the then vacant Pan African Welterweight title.

Both flew into the first round with jabs flying, leaving analysis towards the end of the bout, with lighter jabs.

The second round saw Kamanga swinging out of control and down on one knee, with many not sure of the cause.

He made up for the fall with a number of accurate upper cuts.

From the third round, Kamanga went into each round at full force, landing damaging jabs to the weakening Zhailauov.

Zhailauov threw back a few retaliation punches, but they were not hard enough to make an impact on his opponent.

Kamanga’s punches had Zhailauov bleeding,, with a swollen right cheek that seemingly closed up his eye.

The bout was paused in the fourth round, as Zhailauov’s injury had to be observed by the medical team to see whether he was fit enough to go on.

Much to Zhailauov’s relief he was granted the opportunity to carry on, as he seemed amped to proceed.

In the next round Kamanga kept going at his opponent’s injury and worked on his body.

This round – the fifth – concluded matters, as Kamanga kept up his continuous jabs that led to a TKO two minutes and 18 seconds into the fifth round.
