End the year on a fitness high

Fit for Free Aerobics Marathon scheduled to take place at Germiston Lake.

The metro, in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Sports and Recreation and Virgin Active, will host the Fit for Free Aerobics Marathon on December 12, at Germiston Lake.

The eight-hour long aerobics marathon is set to be electrifying, with qualified gym instructors from Virgin Active expected to lead participants of all ages in intense sessions, all in the name of alleviating disease, stress and obesity.

The event is a culmination of eight months of the Ekurhuleni Aerobics Marathon series, which took place on Saturday mornings throughout Ekurhuleni, since April.

“We, as the metro, seek to promote social cohesion while addressing the serious issue of healthy living among our citizens, encouraging them to improve their health status,” said metro spokesman Themba Gadebe.

To kick-start the eventful day, a 5km fun run and walk are scheduled to start at 7am.

The high paced aerobics session will begin at 9am.

“Furthermore, the programme of activities will dedicate an hour to cater for senior citizens’ fitness,” added Gadebe.
