Great football action at Hattingh Park

SAB Castle League match ends in a draw.

Hattingh Park played host to a SAB Castle League fixture on Saturday.

The league, that started in September, saw Kathorus Football Club go up against Shumba Football Club.

Both teams played well, with the first goal scored by Shumba FC in the first half.

Shumba’s victory lasted until the break, after which Kathorus scored an equaliser just one minute into the second half.

The two rivals put out robust defence lines, ensuring that the affair ended in a 1-1 draw.

“We were relegated from the Vodacom League to this league, but the team has been performing well, which is great because we want to get back to the Vodacom League,” said Kathorus FC’s general manager, Kwezi Masono.

“One of the greatest challenges we have been faced with is the inconsistency of the players.

“They would come and go, which put massive strain on the performance, but we have been stable these past couple of months, which is a good sign.”

The local team was formed almost two years ago, but Masono told the GCN that they are looking to expand.

“At the moment, we have only this one team, but we are looking to expand to a proper academy with more players and teams,” he explained.

“We welcome new players at the club.

“The team will also be taking part in a tournament from December 16 to 30, at different venues in Thokoza and Katlehong.

“All teams are welcome to take part in the tournament.

“There are great cash prizes to be won and the age groups range from u-13 to senior teams.”
