Stamina and fitness tested at the Germiston Stadium

Great athletics action witnessed at Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA)’s Sub-Youth Provincial Championships.

Athletes gathered at the Germiston Stadium for the Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA)’s Sub-Youth Provincial Championships on Saturday.

“These championships are in preparation for the Inter-provincial Championships that are set to take place this Saturday, November 21, at the Germiston Stadium, which is also a CGA event,” said CGA’s Mbalenhle Ngema.

Athletes from different parts of the country came out in numbers to showcase their talents while friends, family and community members made appearances to show their support and cheer on the athletes.

Javelin throw, high jump, 100m sprint, long jump and shot put were among the events witnessed at the stadium.

“We are happy at the way things turned out today, the entire event was a success,” said Ngema.

“The athletes were punctual and we managed to start the event on time, giving each event the deserved time, patience and pace required.

“It is important to have events start on time as it allows the programme to run smoothly, giving athletes enough time to prepare for their different races and without being rushed and the programme overlapping past the expected time.

“CGA would like to thank parents and the community for showing great support and making the event a success.”

Ngema also said the community members are welcome to show their support at the championships happening this Saturday.

“The event is open to the public with hopes to revive the spirit of athletics,” she said.

“Just like today, there will be an entry fee at Saturday’s Inter-provincial Championships with the programme commencing at 9am.”
