A glimmer of hope for Ekurhuleni golfers

Golf development on the cards.

“Stepping onto a golf course for the very first time erased all the dull memories of playing with sticks and stones on dusty township play fields for aspiring junior golfers,” said the metro’s spokesman, Themba Gadebe.

“On October 7, the metro launched its response to the impending need to make golf an ordinary sport that even children residing in previously disadvantaged communities can participate in.”

“Golf is my passion, it gives me so great joy when I see my players develop into better players through my contribution,” said Veilen Morodi, Katlehong Golf Academy coach and ardent player.

“Over 80 junior golfers between the ages of five and 16 converged at the Reading Country Club, in Alberton, for a nine-hole challenge, all geared up with their golfing equipment for a fun filled day on the golf course,” explained Gadebe.

“The metro has committed to establishing golf clinics across the region so as to develop young golfers.

“This is in preparation of the upcoming coaching clinics to be facilitated by golfing professionals linked to the SA Open Championships, which will be hosted by the metro in January.”

Golf coaches interested in attending golf clinics with their teams can visit their nearest Ekurhuleni Customer Care Centre to register at the Facilities Booking Clerk.
