Friendly competition raises money for the children

Golfers tee off in support of Germiston’s children.

Germiston Child Welfare hosted its annual Golf Day at Germiston Golf Club, last Thursday.

The aim of the day was to raise much-needed funds for the society.

One hundred-and-twelve golfers left their busy schedules and teed off in the Germiston Child Welfare fund-raiser.

After all the fun and games out on the course, a dinner was held in the Germiston Golf Club’s dining area for the prize-giving ceremony.

It was a successful night and enjoyed by all.

A raffle prize of a double door fridge was won by Johan Fourie.

The winners of the golf day were the team of Joe Smit and Charlie Collier.

During the prize-giving, an auction was held for a Golden Lions, signed and framed, rugby jersey which raised R9 000.

Afterwards many players committed themselves to support the organisation going forward.

A special word of thanks goes to Stephen van Buuren and Wayne Wickham for coordinating the event and everyone working behind the scenes to make it a huge success.

A big thank you also goes to all the sponsors and donors who supported the event through participation, donating prizes and sponsoring holes.

Through all the support and hard work approximately R90 000 was raised in support of the services of the organisation.

“In every day we have 1 440 minutes.

“That means we have 1 440 daily opportunities to make a positive impact.

“Thank you to all the golfers who gave a good portion of their minutes to the organisation,” said Barbara Bouwer, director of Germiston Child Welfare.
