Local club hosts successful camp

Katlehong's Shorin Kempo Karate Club members shake off the winter chill at their annual winter camp.

Katlehong’s Shorin Kempo Karate Club hosted their annual Karate Winter Camp from July 7 to 12, at the Heidelberg Campsite.

“We had Shorin Kempo Karate Clubs from Durban, Limpopo and other parts of the country attend the camp,” said the local club’s sensei, Thulane Sibisi.

“This is an annual camp and it also served as a selection camp for the South African team who will represent the country at the Sokyokushin Karate Tournament that will be held in Zimbabwe, this Saturday, July 25.

“Tankiso Mokheti, Katleho Hlatshwayo, Nthabiseng Moloi, Tshepo Khoasi and Thobeka Mpolo are the karatekas from the local club who were selected to the South African team.”

Sibisi also said the camp was successful.

“The camp was very fruitful, with 75 students taking part,” he said.

“Among other things, we aimed to teach students more about respect, discipline and life skills.

The Lovelife initiative was invited to motivate the students and the Southern African Association of Youth Clubs (SAAYC) prepared team-building activities for them.

“All students received certificates of attendance.

“A big thank you to all who attended and everyone who helped to make the camp the huge success it was.”
