Father and son take on the water

Novice river races a success.

The river race season is now in full swing with the easier and shorter novice races over with.

Victoria Lake Canoe Club’s (VLC) paddlers competed in Florida Lake Canoe Club’s river race, held on the Klip River, on May 24.

The 22km event had more than 100 paddlers enjoy the mild autumn early morning chill.

VLC’s father-and-son affair, Michael and Keagan Rae, are enjoying the river race adventures and successfully tackled the challenging rapids to finish their race in a time of two hours and two minutes.

The local pair is looking forward to challenges and obstacles as they grow in confidence and skills.

Most paddlers are gaining experience on river races and earning points towards an A Grade status which will enable them to compete in their first A Grade river race, the Fish River Canoe Marathon, in October.
