United claims Castle league fixture

SAB Castle League almost over.

Hattingh Park hosted a SAB Castle League fixture between Alexandra United FC and Highlands Park FC, on Sunday.

The two teams left no room for analysis and went straight into the match at full force.

Speed was the name of the game and while Highlands’ great tackling was among the skills witnessed, this had nothing on Alexandra’s robust defence line.

The speed died out when the temperatures warmed up and the coaches from both sides must have said something to the players as, although the speed was reduced, fans witnessed more first-class football skills throughout the second half.

Though both sides displayed great football, Alexandra were the winners of the day, with a score of 3-2.

“Unfortunately, we lost, but I would like to say well done to the boys, as they played really well and gave it their best shot,” said Highlands Park FC’s coach, Lucas Maboa.

“We didn’t have a goalkeeper, as neither of our ‘keepers pitched up for the game and we had to place one of our players in that position.

“Despite the goalkeeper shortage, I am still happy with the team’s performance.

“It was a well-played game from both sides and well done to Alexandra on their win.”

Of the 18 teams in the league, Alexandra are currently third on the log, while Highlands are seventh and making their way up.

Prior to that fixture, Luso Africa FC’s u-13 side also faced Boksburg FC in a cross-border league fixture.

“When a team performs well in the Easterns League they are promoted to playing teams from other leagues, outside the East Rand hence it is called the cross-border league,” said the local team’s coach, Sipho Ndawonde.

Luso won the game 2-1.
