Gripping fixture leaves Germiston City on top

Germiston City leads the way.

Germiston City FCā€™s u-17 Super League side took on Mondeor Meteors FC in Mondeor, last Sunday.

ā€œIt was an exciting game which ebbed and flowed, with both teams matching each other in all departments and even down to the goals,ā€ said the local clubā€™s communications officer, Peter Oliver.

Germiston were first to score a fine goal in the first 15 minutes.

ā€œMondeor hit back in the 34th minute with a soft goal, where the Germiston goalkeeper failed to keep his eye on the ball and let it roll under his foot,ā€ said Oliver.

ā€œIn the second half Germiston came out playing more striking football, and were soon rewarded with a well-taken goal.

ā€œMondeor hit back almost immediately and equalised, again.ā€

Germiston continued to put pressure on the Mondeor defence and were soon back in the lead by 3-2.

ā€œA penalty after what seemed a clean tackle brought Mondeor back into the game, 3-3,ā€ said Oliver.

ā€œGermiston applied more pressure on the Mondeor side and were soon 4-3 ahead.

ā€œSensing victory Germiston were not about to let their lead slip again and were rewarded with a well-worked goal, three minutes from time.ā€

Germiston won the game 5-3.
