Muscle, physique and fitness tested

Muscles up.

Muscles, fitness and physique were among the things tested at the IFBB Millennium Gold Plate Fitness and Bodybuilding Show on March 28.

Marius Wessels, Masoka Thembani and Juan Branford, all athletes from Germiston’s Unique Physique Gym, took part in the competition which was held at the Kempton Park Civic Centre.

Thembani took part in the u-18 division and was placed fourth while Branford placed fifth in the same division.

“We are proud of their results, they worked really hard,” said Wessels, who is the main coach at the local gym.

“These are our upcoming stars, and we, at the gym, assist and develop all our young athletes because they are our future.”

Wessels entered the high standard masters division and faced 11 competitors.

“It was a bit tough, but I managed to get second position and I am very happy as it is not easy to achieve those results in such a huge competition,” he said.

“The Millennium Gold Plate also served as a qualifier show for the Arnold Classic, which is scheduled to take place in South Africa next year.

“I am very excited about the Arnold Classic and I hope I will be among those selected to represent South Africa at this show,” said Wessels.
