Impressive results for local club

Tebbutts Academy on a constant rise.

Members from Tebbutts Mixed Martial Arts Academy are in full competition mode and producing impressive results.

The first competition was the Warriors competition which was held in Centurion, recently.

“The members who attended did very well and managed to bring home 42 medals, it was a great start to the year,” said the owner and head coach at the club, master Alex Tebbutt.

The club also had ten of its members attend the Eastern Gauteng Championships, which were held in Brakpan, shortly after the Warriors competition.

“Once again, our members made us proud and all ten were named the Eastern Gauteng Champions,” said Tebbutt.

“We are exceptionally happy about all our results, the athletes really give their best.

“I think the other element which is working towards our advantage, is the fact that we started with training early this year, and dusted off the festive season rust way ahead of the competitions and had a great head start.”

Tebbutt also said that the club’s newly introduced fitness classes helped the members endure the toughness at the competitions.

“In January, we introduced fitness classes and they take place an hour before our normal practice, and I think that is also helping our members during competitions,” he said.

“It is the first time I see athletes having this much stamina and not getting tired during competitions. I strongly believe that the fitness classes have built the athletes’ stamina.”

The club also had a grading on March 21, which went well, with all the athletes grading to new belts.

“I must say, the club is growing from strength to strength,” said Tebbutt.

“Looking at our performances at competitions and during practice, I can say we are ready for upcoming competitions.”

“We are ready for the South African Championships, which are scheduled to take place from May 1 to 3, in Cape Town.”

The local club’s head coach also said that the fitness classes are not only open to members.

“We have people from outside the club, who join our fitness classes, and we are saying more people are welcome to come and join,” he said.

“The classes are held from Monday to Thursday, from 6pm to 7pm, and on Saturdays from 6am to 8am, but due to the increasing number of people joining, we are actually considering extending Saturday’s time to 9am.”
