Local fighter aims high

"Lil Ronda" aims for greatness.

Germiston’s young female fighter, Cassandra “Lil Ronda” Le Roux, started mixed martial arts two years ago and loves it.

“I enjoy this sport. It is a bit challenging and technical, but I don’t mind because it’s through challenges that you become a better person,” said Le Roux.

“I love learning new things and perfecting them, and I want to learn all there is in this sport.”

Le Roux said she is inspired by Ronda Rousey, a world female mixed martial arts athlete.

“She is my inspiration, and that is how I got my nickname “Lil Ronda”; I fight like her and I look like her,” she said.

The youngster, who is the deputy head girl at Hoërskool Vryburger, said that she wants to go further with mixed martial arts when she is done with school.

When asked what advice she can give to motivate youngsters, Le Roux said: “Challenge yourself, set goals and stick to them. You will never know unless you try.”

Le Roux recently took part in the Gauteng Fighting Championships (GFC) 7, which were held at Hattingh Park.

She faced Nikita Peek in the hexagon and won through an armbar in the first round.

“The fight was a bit short, it went quicker than I intended, but I am glad that I won, it feels great,” she said.

“I am ready for upcoming competitions.””I would like to thank my management, my trainers and training partners.

“A big thank you to my sponsors and to my family and friends for always supporting and motivating me.”
