Starting the year off right

Accelerating growth for local club.

Tebbutts Mixed Martial Arts Academy has already started with its classes and lessons for the year.

“Yes, we have opened and the members have gained weight during the holidays, so it is time to lose it,” joked the owner and head coach at the club, Master Alex Tebbutt.

“Jokes aside, I am happy that everybody was at practise when we re-opened; we had a full house, all the members came back and everybody is well.

“We also have a lot of new karatekas, and I am truly happy,” he said.

“We also introduced new fitness classes, this year, which are currently held every Monday and Wednesday, from 6pm to 7pm.Then, from 7pm to 8pm, it is kickboxing.”

“Looking at the increasing number of people joining the fitness class, we are actually considering running the classes from Monday to Thursday, at the same time.”

According to Tebbutt, they are already preparing for tournaments.

“We have a full year of tournaments ahead, and I have a good feeling that we will do well; we always train hard especially for tournaments and competitions,” he said.

Their first competition for the year is scheduled for February 14, in Centurion.

In other news, the club will, once again, visit a shelter, in Bronkhorstspruit, in February.

“We are going to visit the Loerie Youth Centre on February 7, and we will be donating clothes,” explained Tebbutt.

“We started this initiative last year, and we want to keep the momentum going, visiting and contributing to as many homes as we can.”

“We encourage more people to join us as we try and do something good for others.”
