Gauteng paddlers attend exciting workshop

VLC paddler shows improvement at workshop.

Junior school league paddlers, from Gauteng, attended a river introduction workshop in Meyerton, recently.

Victoria Lake Canoe Club’s (VLC) Jaemi Wellisch is not completely new to river canoeing skills and workshops, but the refresher course was very good for her.

It helped the 13-year-old Wellisch to improve her confidence and remind her of the necessary strokes needed to comfortably shoot the rapids and paddle in the turbulent water, under watchful eyes of supervising adults and guides, who were on the water ready to assist.

Paddlers from six years and over attended the workshop, provided they were comfortable with their swimming skills.

The workshop was the highlight of the young Gauteng canoeists’ year to date, as it gave them an inkling of where their sport will be able to take them as they grow older, more confident and more skilled.

The spectators were treated to shrieks of glee and excitement as all the children managed to shoot the rapids successfully by the end of the workshop.
