ISL a success

Football action at Hattingh Park.

The Industrial Soccer League (ISL) rounded off their six month long league at Hattingh Park, on Saturday.

The league, registered under the South African Football Association (SAFA), comprises players from eight different companies from Elandsfontein and Jet Park.

“This is a league aimed at East Rand-based companies,” said ISL chairman William Shwayiba.

“One of the main reasons for the league is to unite companies and promote their brands through sports.”

Shwayiba said another element that contributed to the birth of the league is the aim of keeping the youth off the streets.

“The player’s ages range from 18 to 50, so, together with keeping the youngsters off the streets, we want to keep men fit and try to alleviate illnesses,” he said.

Although the league started only this year, there are talks of another league next year.

“The league was successful and I think this will be an annual league, we, thus, encourage and reach out to other companies from the East Rand to come and register their teams,” explained Shwayiba.

With eight teams battling it out on the field the league had supporters crying and celebrating.

A prize-giving ceremony was held later that day; Quadrant were crowned the 2014 champions, with 40 points overall; Al-Clad trailed behind with 24 points, while Joy Global were third, with 22 points.
