Local club hosts great tournament

Tebbutt Academy's tournament a success.

Lambton’s Tebbutt Mixed Martial Arts Academy continues to produce impressive results at tournaments and competitions.

The club held their annual two-day tournament on October 10 and 11.

“This was a big tournament, we had close to 400 participants enter this year,” said the club owner, Master Alex Tebbutt.

Tebbutt explained that this year’s tournament was different to all the other tournaments they have hosted in previous years.

“Previous tournaments have been good, but this year it was special; the club family stood together, everything ran smoothly, we received a lot of messages, calls and emails where people showed their gratitude and congratulated us on hosting such a great event,” he said.

Tebbutt showed a GCN journalist some of the messages received on his phone, from people who took part in the tournament.

A message from Claude St Arnaud read, among other things: “You put on a great tournament, please keep on helping the sport grow, thank you.”

“I was touched at the way the tournament panned out, people were already talking about next year’s tournament, and some came and told me that they are going to double the number of people they brought to participate,” said Tebbutt.

“I am happy and thank everybody at the club for standing together and making it a special tournament.”

Academy members also took part in the tournament and, after their hard work, commitment and focus they managed to scoop 87 trophies in total.

“I am proud of the members, they did very well, and I would also like to congratulate Hannah Wedel, as she received two Champ-of-Champs trophies; one for point fighting and one for continuous fighting,” explained Tebbutt.

“I also noticed an interesting element: the girls at the club always do extremely well at tournaments; I am exceptionally proud of my girls.”

The great achievement has, among other things, encouraged the club to go back to practise and prepare for upcoming tournaments.

“We have the Iron Man tournament coming up on November 22,” concluded Tebbutt.
