Trinity Sports Sprint Series 2014 kicks off

Triathlon and duathlon fever in Germiston.

Trinity Sports hosted the first edition of the inaugural Triathlon and Duathlon Sprint Series at the Germiston Lake on September 28.

The Trinity Sports Sprint Series follows International Triathlon Union (ITU) rules and comprises of three events in 2014; the next two series are scheduled to take place on October 19 and December 14, also at the Germiston Lake.

Trinity Sports announced that the sprint series kicked off to a flying start and hopes to gain momentum for the series in Gauteng, while driving triathlon and duathlon awareness within the sporting community.

This event series is set to help to address the growing need for more events in Gauteng.

Athletes can earn points per event, working towards the top three positions in the male and female categories, respectively, at the end of the series.

“We are honoured to be able to host a sprint series in Germiston, with the backing and support of Central Gauteng Triathlon (CGT) and Triathlon South Africa (TSA),” said the director at Trinity Sports, Japie Boonzaaier.

“The first of our series was well supported and our goal is to bring Gauteng triathletes and duathletes a fantastic series of events.”

Travis Johnston was the first male finisher in a time of 56 minutes and 38 seconds, while Kerryn Grenfell finished as the first female, in one hour six minutes and 20 seconds.

The winning scholar in the 16-19 years category was Ruan van Zyl, who finished in one hour, one minute and 17 seconds.
