Youngsters take to the field in Delville

Youngsters have a blast at the cup final.

The Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Premier Cup final was held at the Delville Sports Club, on Sunday.

The level of play was a testament of why the teams present made it to the finals; they exhibited great football skills as they competed for the number one spot.

The prize-giving ceremony held after each game piled on the pressure for teams who still had games to play, as they also wanted to get their hands on the winners’ cup and confidently wear gold medals.

Local rivals Germiston City FC and Luso Africa FC also made it to the finals, with their u-15s battling it out on the field.

Germiston City put their best foot forward in an attempt to take the cup and spoil Luso’s winning streak, but, unfortunately, their efforts weren’t successful. They did, however, make Luso sweat for their victory.

“It was a well-played game and Germiston gave the boys a tough time, but at the end there can only be one winner, and we are just happy that it was us,” said Luso Africa FC’s coach, Johnny Vieira.

Luso not only bagged the cup, they also won the ELFA Premier League.

“Yes, we won the league and now we’ve won the cup; the boys went through the league without a single loss or draw and we are very proud of them – they played well and deserved to win,” added Vieira.

Germiston City coach Wiseman Luthuli wished his team could have taken the league, but congratulated Luso on their win.

“It was a good final cup game, both sides played extremely well and, although our boys didn’t take the cup, to us they are winners, they played well and we are proud of them; congratulations to Luso Africa,” he said.
