Public pools are officially open

Ekurhuleni pools open for the swimming season.

Spring is here and, for the City of Ekurhuleni, it means that the swimming season has officially begun.

As of September 1 until March 31, next year, municipal swimming pools in the metro are open for use to members of the public.

All swimming pools, with the exception of the Boksburg North and Delville pools, operate from Tuesday to Saturday (10am to 6pm) and from 2pm to 6pm on Sundays and public holidays.

The metro’s pools are closed on Mondays (including public holidays which fall on that day), Christmas Day and Good Friday.

There are different entrance fees for Category C pools, Category B pools, and Category A pools.

The metro has 35 public pools and 28 of those were opened on Spring Day, September 1.

Among others, the Katlehong Swimming Pool is non-operational, due to various reasons.

The non-operational swimming pool facilities are currently being refurbished and are expected to be operational during the course of the season.

There has been a theft of filter equipment at Olympia Park, which has caused a delay in the opening of that facility.

The metro wishes all swimmers a safe summer in the water, and reminds all to abide by the rules at all times.

A quick note for the community: operation hours at the Category A (heated) swimming pool, in Delville, are as follows:

  • Monday: closed
  • Tuesdays to Thursdays – 5.30am to 8.30pm.
  • Fridays – 5.30am to 6pm.
  • Saturdays -10am to 6pm.
  • Sundays and public holidays, accept those that fall on Mondays – 2pm to 6pm.
