Local club on a high

Tebbutt academy excels.

Tebbutt Mixed Martial Arts Academy members continue to excel in competitions.

The academy recently took part in the WAKO SAs, which were held in Pretoria, and made their club proud as they received East Gauteng kickboxing colours.

With close to 600 competitors from all over the country, the tournament was tough and required endurance and focus.

“The competition was hard it was mainly focused on points and continuous fighting, so competitors had to fight really well to get somewhere, but I had faith in my club members, as they always put a lot of effort into what they do, which is one of the reasons why they excel,” said the owner and coach of the club, Master Alex Tebbutt.

The club brought home eight medals.

On May 24, some of the members took part in the Potchefstroom Warriors Sports Tournament.

“Sensei John Fiver did a good job with the tournament, everything ran smoothly and accordingly,” said Tebbutt.

The Lambton academy members faced 200 competitors and managed to shine in the tests that were in store for them.

They walked away with 70 medals and the WTKA Potchefstroom Warriors Trophy.

“We work hard during training; one can actually see how determined our members are, even during practise, I am always happy with the performances and results produced by our warriors,” explained Tebbutt.

Hannah Wedel and Logan Stadler produced outstanding results; to add to their high points they each received individual trophies.

Wedel received five gold medals and was rewarded with the Champ of Champs trophy in fighting, while Stadler received two gold medals, two silver medals and three bronze medals, together with the Champ of Champs trophy in kata.

“We are happy and proud of our members, but it is back to business for us, as we still have other tournaments lined up and we don’t want to lose the stamina and focus,” added Tebbutt.

The club is headed for the SA Challenge, scheduled to take place in Port Elizabeth on June 27 and 28.
