Callies’ athletes prepare for Comrades

Comrades Marathon coming up.

Germiston Callies Harriers will host a Comrades Marathon Breakfast, at Germiston Lake, on May 25.

The aim of the breakfast is to wish the club’s athletes who are taking part in the Comrades Marathon good luck.

The Comrades is the world’s oldest and largest ultra-marathon, run over a distance of approximately 90km, between Pietermaritzburg and the coastal city of Durban.

It is scheduled to take place on June 1.

Callies have about 75 entrants in this year’s Comrades Marathon.

The breakfast is also held annually to motivate and give the athletes tips on how to tackle the marathon.

Comrades’ legend Tommy Malone will be the guest speaker for the day and will, among other things, talk about the race and give the runners advice.

There will be a 15km run before the breakfast.

The 2014 Comrades T-shirts will be handed out to the athletes, who will also be given important information such as the positions of Callies support stations along the route.
