LMS season final

The Delville Sports Club hosted the Last Man Stands cricket tournament final, on Sunday.

Last Man Stands is a seniors tournament that is mostly played at the club on Sundays.

The LMS commenced towards the end of last year, and the organisers say it was successful.

The tournament received great support from participants and community members, who also witnessed great cricket.

“Big ups to all the players and teams who competed; we played on excellent fields and everything was well co-ordinated,” said one of the organisers, Justin de Beer.

With close to 36 teams registered in the previous season and new teams promising to enter, the tournament continues to grow and it promises to produce first class cricket action in the new season.

The Super 8s and the Green Mambas were the two teams who managed to reach the finals.

After a fair game, the Super 8s won and took home the R15 000 cash prize.

A number of great prizes were given away during the prize-giving ceremony that was held later that evening.

Frans Louw was named Batsman of the Season, Harm Venter walked off as the Best Bowler and Gert Ungerer was awarded the Best Keeper title.

“A big thank you to TES Consulting for being the season sponsor, and Elspark Sports Ground and Germiston Cricket club for keeping the fields tip top,” said de Beer.

LMS’s organising committee is already making arrangements for the new season, that is scheduled to start on May 11.

There is also a night league season.

Ruff and Tuff were the night league winners of the previous season and the new night league starts on May 7.

“We have boomed at a great pace and we are looking at over 36 teams this season; we have teams joining us from as far as Benoni, Alberton and Bedfordview,” added de Beer.

New teams are also encouraged to register and catch the new season.
