Germiston’s Kanyisa Mancoba has been selected to be part of the development team that has been given a wild card entry into the J22 World Sailing Championships 2014, being held at the Vaal Dam from April 26 to May 2.
The J22 is one design keelboat crewed by three members.
Mancoba is a member of the Victoria Lake Club Water Sport Institute where he has shown his skills in rowing and canoeing.
Mancoba’s other team members are Jacob and Zac Bester, who are also members of the Victoria Lake Club.
The championships, which are are only hosted in South Africa every seven years, have attracted a 40 boat strong fleet with entries from as far afield as Germany and Cayman Islands.
The youngster finished fourth in his age group in the Gauteng Schools Sprint selection event that was held in Roodeplaat in March.
He participated in his first National Sailing Championships and Youth National Sailing Championships in December 2013.
