The Harcourts Alan Robb Race a huge success

Athletes do it for charity.

On April 6, the Harcourts Alan Robb road race, which is named after the legendry multiple Comrades Marathon winner, took place at the Germiston Stadium.

The race took place in perfect conditions and a record field of athletes took part in the three events (32km, 15km and 5km) on the day.

Thousands of athletes participated and took to the streets of Germiston.

“We are delighted to be part of such a prestigious event; the race attracts runners and supporters from all over Gauteng and it is the perfect opportunity to showcase our brand and our commitment to the event,” said Harcourts Real Estate group’s Simon Smith.

Many of the athletes who took part were using the event as a preparation run for the upcoming Comrades Marathon and said they were impressed by the route and organisation.

“As a club, we are extremely happy with the growth of this annual event; it just continues to grow every year,” said Germiston Callies’ Les Black.

With the great running conditions on the day and the relativity flat course, the 32km and 15km events saw really fast times, from not only the winners, but also from the other runners.

Most of the athletes said they had recorded their personal best times for the distances.

“I would like to thank Germiston Callies and all the athletes who took part in the race; Harcourts Real Estate is already looking forward to the 2015 event,” said Smith.

A cheque was handed over to the Kitty and Puppy Haven charity at the end of the day.
