Duathletes head for the X-Dirt Triathlon Challenge

Duathletes join the triathlon.

Due to numerous requests from duathletes, the organisers of the 2013/2014 X-Dirt Triathlon Challenge have decided to add a duathlon section to the three remaining races in the challenge.

Both will be sprint events, with the triathlon races consisting of a 600m swim, 20km on-road cycle or 14 to 16km mountain bike stage, depending on the competitor’s preference, and a 5km run.

The only difference for the duathletes will be that they start off with a 2.5km run course instead of a swim leg, and then follow the same cycle and run course and distances as the triathletes.

While these races offer the professional, as well as the weekend warrior, a good challenge, they are also achievable for first-time multi-sport enthusiasts.

Teams of two are also welcome to participate.

The next X-Dirt Challenge event is scheduled to take place at Roodeplaat Dam on March 2, and the action will then move to Buffelspoort Dam, on March 30.

The final event of the competition will take place at Heron Banks Golf and River Estate, Vanderbijlpark, on April 6.

To make it a fun day out for the entire family and to help to get children active, X-Dirt Triathlon Challenge events include a children’s race, which takes place prior to the main event.

For safety, and to keep it fun, the children’s stamina will be tested only over short distances, starting at 8am on race days, followed by the main triathlon and duathlon events for junior (16 to 19), open and senior division athletes, kicking off at 9am.

To be a part of the action, triathletes and duathletes can enter online now, at www.xdirt.co.za.

Late entries will be accepted from 6am on race days, at an increased fee for both individuals and teams.
