The 30th edition of the ever-popular Carnival City Macsteel National Classic Cycle Race will be held on Sunday, just two weeks before the Cape Argus.
Carnival City and Macsteel continue their sponsorship of this superb event, which is again hosted by the Germiston Rotary Club, in conjunction with Germiston Wheelers.
The race is a seeding event for this year’s Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge and gives competitors a chance to ride the 160km, 120km, 103km or 65km distances.
With road safety in mind, rolling road closure will take place from 6am on the day of the race.
On request from Cycling South Africa (CSA), and to start bringing the event in line with international distances, the Elite Men will ride 10km further, on a new, 160km route.
The event is CSA sanctioned.
This is a fun day out for the whole family, with 160km for the elites and a 65km to get the legs kicking.
Fees vary with the distances.
Once again, ChampionChips will be used to provide accurate timing and results for this event.
All cyclists, including licensed cyclists, are required to make use of a ChampionChip.
Those cyclists who do not have a chip can purchase one with their entry.
All cyclists who are present at prize-giving will be eligible to enter the lucky draw by filling in the tear-off coupon on their race number.
Two Mongoose Tyax Sport 9Rs are up for grabs, along with numerous other exciting prizes.
In addition, every R10 donated through the entry process also gets you one entry into the charity draw, where you can win a Cannondale CAAD10 105 to the value of R20 000.
Prize-giving for all the licensed cyclists will start at 10.30am, while the main prize-giving will commence at 12.30pm.
The lucky draw will take place at the main prize-giving ceremony.
The event has teamed up with Lynx Couriers to provide a race number courier service, which can be selected as part of the online entry process.
For a small fee, entrants can have their race pack delivered to their door.
The race is a “Ride for Charity” event and all proceeds are ploughed into deserving areas within the community, more specifically Rotary Community Projects, The Rotary Foundation, Germiston Wheelers Charity Projects and the development of amateur cycling.
