Children’s Corner – Let’s bake a chocolate cake

Have some fun making baking with Leigh in today’s Children’s Corner.

Welcome to the Germiston City News’ Children’s Corner.

The Children’s Corner is dedicated to little ones within our community and offers fun things for them to do during lockdown, with their parents of course.

We will be having story time, craft time and baking time in the Children’s Corner so make sure you you keep up to date with all the fun offerings.

Follow this simple receipt for a delicious chocolate sponge cake

First beat four egg whites and one level teaspoon of baking power until very stiff.

The mix:

  •  Four egg yolks
  • One teaspoon of vanilla essence
  • Two table spoons of cocoa
  • One large cup of sifted flour
  • 3/4 of a cup of sugar
  • 1/2 a cup of oil
  • 1/2 a cup of water

Once the mixture is mixed together well add three level teaspoons of baking powder and mix.

Once the baking powder is mixed into the mixture fold in the egg whites.

Bake in two cake tins in a 180°C preheated oven for 15 mins (or until a knife comes away clean).

Once baked allow to cool before topping with your choice of topping, my favourite topping is fresh whipped cream and caramel.
