‘Admit one’ activities for Valentine’s Day

There’s no need to put a stop to Valentine’s Day celebrations just because you’re single.

So you’re single and Valentine’s Day is a day away?

So payday is days away and Valentine’s Day is in a day?

Those relating to the latter you knew better, rather join the “I do not celebrate Valentine’s Day Club” and bash your way through the day. To those relating to the former, it is not the end of the world and there are exciting things happening this week.

Let’s start with the movie house:

Inxeba (The Wound) a South African movie, which has claimed eight South African Film and Television Awards (Safta) nominations, including Best Actor, Best Director and Best Film and has also won 19 awards at 44 festivals in more than 25 countries worldwide, is still showing.

Black Panther, the most anticipated Marvel movie hits the screens on Friday, you could perhaps use this time to look for an outfit (might I suggest dressing as one of the Revolutionary Black Panther members from the 60s?).

Yes, I know it is not a romantic movie to stay with the theme of Valentine’s Day, but it’s a nice way to get your mind off the pressing issues at hand: ‘you’re single’, ‘you’ll probably die alone’, ‘perhaps I need to text my ex back.’

Staying with new releases:

Volkswagen launched the new VW Polo and I hear it is a beast with a sound system by Beats by Dre.

Why not book a test drive, call me, tell me all about it.

To completely get your mind off it all, get a 1 000 piece puzzle.

I recently bought my mother a 1 000 piece puzzle (she’s developing grown women problems – she’s forgetful), its calming, passes time and scientists have proven that puzzles and other types of brain training may help to slow memory loss and other mental problems.

If you insist on romance, get scented candles and foam bath and soak yourself in a warm bath with lightly scented bath salts.

The aim of these ‘admit one’ activities is to make you feel better about yourself and know that there is nothing wrong with celebrating the day by yourself.

A lot of people put on a poker face and wear t-shirts with the word ‘Asexual’ printed on them and go on to share how adverse to celebrating the day they are. Good for them but some people are hopeless romantics and on this day they feel a need or an extreme desire for affection.

For me, Valentine’s Day is like New Year’s Eve all over again.

We all know the plans we set in place to usher in the new year, but somewhere between driving around picking up friends, wrong GPS coordinates, and the New Year’s Eve rain it all ends up as a blunder, and five-four-three-two-one we will try again next year.

Love, light and vegetables.
