Juicy Tidbits – Happy Halloween

Halloween is one of America's favourite holidays and the love for the day is slowly making its way to South Africa's shores.

Happy Halloween…

Halloween is an annual holiday, celebrated each year on October 31, and has roots in age-old European traditions.

It originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts.

In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints; soon, All Saints Day incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain.

The evening before was known as All Hallows Eve, and later Halloween.

Over time, Halloween evolved into a day of activities like trick-or-treating and carving jack-o-lanterns.

The day has slowly gained momentum in South Africa with more and more people dressing-up and handing out sweet treats.

Many events and walks are arranged each year to ensure that children have a safe environment in which to trick-or-treat.
