Community members emphasise the importance of recycling.
Adèle Stewart: “Yes, it is important to recycle otherwise everything gets dumped and pollutes the earth. We need to try and recycle as much as possible.”
GCN asked community members why they think it is important for people to recycle.
Protecting the ozone layer was among the most common reasons given by the community.
Reducing pollution was also among those most spoken about.
Sandra Barnard: “Recycling is definitely important because of the ozone layer; we need fresh air, not polluted air. I recycle glass, paper and plastic.”
Hendrina Cilliers: “Recycling is crucial because if we don’t, then the waste just builds up. When we recycle, we can make other different products.”
Tommy Gloss:“Yes, it is important to recycle because there is too much waste and people need to know that it creates employment. I always recycle.”
Paul “Cowboy” Kruger: “Recycling is important because mother earth is suffering due to the anti-biodegradables that we dump. I am a big supporter of recycling.”
Jennica Marais: “Yes, recycling is important because of the ozone layer and the need for us to protect it – always. I recycle bottles and plastic containers.”
