Juicy Tidbits – Happy St Patrick’s Day

Will you be turning the world green today in honour of Saint Patrick's Day?

‘Top of the morning to you’ and Happy Saint Patrick’s Day….

Saint Patrick’s Day or St Paddy’s Day, as its affectionately known, is an annual feast day which celebrates Saint Patrick, the most commonly recognised of the patron saints of Ireland.

St Patrick is one of the world’s most popular saints and was born in Roman Britain.

He was taken to Ireland as a slave when he was 14 or so after being captured by Irish pirates during a raiding party.

Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated worldwide not only by those of Irish descent but by people of all ethnicities.

Celebrations are generally themed around all things Irish and, by association, the colour green.

People celebrate the holiday by wearing green, eating Irish food and/or green foods, imbibing Irish drink and attending parades, which have a particularly long history in the United States and in Canada.

Here in South Africa we also celebrate the day, with may of us ordering a Guinness beer at our local watering hole instead of our usual drinks of choice.

How will you celebrate this day?
