Juicy Tidbits – Ringing in the New Year

How do you bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new?

Another year is almost over.

While we busy ourselves getting all our holiday plans together ,our focus shifts to how we will bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new.

When I was younger I would go to my grandparents’ bowling club to dance the night away, a tradition they still uphold today.

In recent year’s we have rung in the New Year in Mozambique, with my husband’s family, which usually includes a big dinner followed by a beach party, ending with an informal fireworks display at midnight.

I wanted to find out how other people spend their New Year’s Eve, in the hope that it would inspire my own plans.

  • Julie Truter: “We have a huge get together, with family and friends and eat.”
  • Michelle Jordan: “We have a family braai, where we spend as much time as possible in the pool.”
  •  Izahn van Huyssteen: “Shouting Happy New Year three seconds before midnight and throwing everyone off — just joking, we spend the day with family.”
  •  Angelica Bilro: “On New Year’s Eve we have a big lamb dinner and on New Year’s Day we make shortbread with a coin in it, an old Greek tradition.”

However you choose to ring in the New Year, be safe and responsible.

Happy New Year, and all the best for 2016.
