Juicy Tidbits – #FeesMustFall

Will fees ever fall?

The #FeesMustFall movement, has been sweeping the country for more than week

With students from various tertiary institutions protesting against the proposed fee hikes for 2016.

People around the country have now begun to ask the question: “What would a fee hike mean for education in the country?”

I, myself, have felt the disappointment that the high price of tertiary education can bring.

I have wanted to study further, but have been unable to, because I simple cannot afford the fees, or the repayment on a student loan.

A dear friend of mine, Malinda Markham, commented on the situation, stating: “I can say that any increase in fees affects us as parents, because one day our children will be at varsity.

“So I agree with fighting for lower prices and even free education, but I don’t agree with violence or breaking things to get what you want.”

I agree with this as a married woman, wanting to start a family.

I sometimes wonder if we will be able to send our child to school, and what sacrifices we will have to make in other areas to afford a good education for our child.

Will my 10-year-old cousin, who is at the top of her grade, be able to go to varsity, or will her potential be wasted because there is simply no money?

Another friend questioned whether it is even worth studying further if you have to weigh the financial pro’s and con’s.

What will the future of our country hold if we start doubting the worth of education?

Will the fees fall?
