Street plagued by sewage leaks

Sewage leak in Pipit Street.

Patrick Pietersen from Elspark writes:

Pipet Street in Elspark, Germiston, has been plagued by sewage blockages and leaks for three weeks.

The latest leak, in my own yard, has been a problem for the last week.

I have reported the matter to the metro and spoken to the chief engineer but still nothing.

Holes dug during construction are also a huge problem in the area.

Editor’s note:

Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the Ekurhuleni Metro, explained the blockage was caused by sand inside the sewer line.

“The sewer blockage was cleared on July 7,” he said.

“The responsible department is surveying the entire area for missing manhole covers that could be causing infiltration of foreign objects.”
