While travelling on the back road from Elsburg towards Reiger Park, last month, I noticed that a dog had been run over.
I had to turn around and go back.
I was hoping that the dog wouldn’t be run over again as motorists flew down that road, not adhering to the speed limit.
Luckily when I got to the Alsatian, it was still alive, but unfortunately it couldn’t move, as its one front leg and two back legs were injured.
I directed the traffic away from the dog and a woman by the name of Anga stopped to help me.
A man came to our rescue and helped to pick up the dog and put it in my car.
I took the dog to the Benoni SPCA, where it was later discovered that it had a broken back and front legs.
The SPCA couldn’t help it and they had to put it down.
This broke my heart as you could see it wasn’t a stray dog and had probably run after its owner.
I would like to thank the two good Samaritans for coming to my rescue, as I didn’t know how to lift the dog into my car without being bitten; she was in a lot of pain.
It is just unfortunate that I don’t know their names but they helped me a lot and I appreciate it.
I am also reaching out to motorists to be on the lookout for stray dogs in the area.
I have seen quite a few dogs killed next to the road in this area, which is truly heartbreaking.
