Man seeks information about paternal grandfather

Grandson wants to know his grandfather’s history.

Harry Scott, Scottish Borders, United Kingdom writes:

I am appealing to readers to assist me with information regarding my paternal grandfather, Harry Scott, who died in Germiston on August 16, 1911.

He and my grandmother, Catherine, were married in Jedburgh, in the Scottish Borders, on September 7, 1910, and emigrated to South Africa shortly afterwards.

All I know is that my grandfather was an engineer working in the mining industry in or near Germiston, and he was killed in an accident of some description in a working mine.

His death is commemorated in his home village of Ancrum, in the Scottish Borders, on the family headstone, which records the deaths of others in his family.

Following his death my grandmother returned to Jedburgh, where my father was born.

My grandmother died in 1967, and my father in 1998.

I’d be grateful for any information about him or the accident which claimed his life.

I can be contacted via email at harry-scott@hotmail.co.uk
