Germiston residents frustrated over poor workmanship
Residents are encouraged to report to the city when they are not pleased with the workmanship done in an area.
Residents in Germiston are expressing growing frustration with the city’s handling of leaking pipe repairs, citing poor workmanship and recurring issues.
Multiple repair projects, aimed at addressing long-standing leaks, have left roads in disrepair, further aggravating the community.

Robert Smith, a local resident, voiced his disappointment over the city’s delayed response to infrastructure problems.
“We’ve had a leaking pipe for almost a year. Despite numerous reports, the road was dug up and left in a terrible state, creating more stress for us,” Smith said.
Taxi drivers and pedestrians echoed these concerns, with a local taxi driver stating, “The roads are falling apart, damaging our vehicles, and causing daily frustration.”
Pedestrian Sipho Nkosi added, “The uneven surfaces and improperly filled holes are hazardous, forcing motorists to drive onto pavements.”
In response, City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini acknowledged the complaints, explaining that qualified officials regularly inspect repair work.

“Contractors are penalised if their work does not meet standards. We encourage residents to report unsatisfactory workmanship via the call centre or the MyCOE app,” said Dlamini.
Dlamini also explained that trench surfaces are not immediately restored due to wet soil conditions, asking for residents’ patience.
However, residents are demanding stricter quality control and more immediate solutions, calling the current standards unacceptable.
“As taxpayers, we deserve better. The city must improve the quality of these repairs and deliver long-term solutions,” concluded Smith.
