Germiston Magistrate Court hands 15 years for bribery

Edenvale SAPS has lauded the hard work of one of its detectives and officers after a successful conviction was attained.

Lewis Johnson was sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of bribery.

The sentence was handed down on August 15 by the Germiston Magistrate Court.

Warrant Officer Geoffrey Debeer investigated the case.

Edenvale Police Station spokesperson Warrant Officer Jacob Mashile said on May 25, last year, Edenvale Police reacted to information about Johnson being in the vicinity of Edenvale near Eastleigh Primary School.

“Captain Patrick Msimango and Sergeant Tumishi Lesufi responded to the tip-off and found Johnson in the schoolyard. The officers introduced themselves to Johnson and requested his form of identity.”

Msimango and Lesufi informed Johnson that there was an arrest warrant for him.

“Johnson started to ask for favours not to be arrested. He handed his wallet to the police to allow them to take what so ever is in the wallet.”

Msimango informed Johnson that his conduct amounted to corruption. The man was detained and charged with corruption
