Two men nabbed in Marathon for possession of unlicensed firearm

Preliminary investigations revealed the firearm was reported stolen at Brownville in June 2017.

Two men, aged 34 and 36, were recently arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm during an intelligence-led operation in the Marathon informal settlement.

The operation, conducted by members of the SAPS Ekurhuleni District Crime Intelligence and the SAPS Germiston Crime Prevention Unit, led officers to a specific address in the settlement where the they apprehended the suspects.

“The suspects had a Norinco Star pistol, loaded with two live rounds of ammunition in their possession,“ stated Ekurhuleni district communications officer Neldah Sekgobela.

“Preliminary investigations revealed the firearm was reported stolen at Brownville in June 2017.

“The two suspects were arrested and taken to Germiston SAPS for detention.”

Ekurhuleni district commissioner, Major General Anna Sithole, praised the efforts of the law enforcement teams involved, noting their ongoing commitment to reducing crime in the Ekurhuleni District.
