Rape and robbery accused gets 50 years in prison by High Court

Two cases of rape and robbery were opened at the Elsburg Police Station and assigned to Detective Sergeant Ndanduleni Mudau of the Germiston Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit.

The Johannesburg High Court found 40-year-old Makhetha Moeketsi Robert guilty of rape and robbery in connection with a brutal incident that occurred in 2017.

He was sentenced to 50 years imprisonment.

On September 5, 2017, the victim and her boyfriend were approached by Robert and two other men while sitting in a bakkie.

One of the assailants, armed with a firearm, forced the boyfriend to move to the passenger seat.

The woman was taken behind the vehicle, where she was raped by two of the suspects, while the third male drove off with the boyfriend to a nearby open veld.

During the ordeal, the victim’s boyfriend was forced to watch, and his money was withdrawn by one of the suspects.

Mudau successfully apprehended Robert.

Robert was subsequently found guilty on multiple charges, including two counts of kidnapping, robbery, and rape.

He has been sentenced to serve his time at the Johannesburg Prison, commonly known as Sun City Prison, with his sentences to run concurrently.

Ekurhuleni District Commissioner commended Mudau for his thorough investigation, which brought the perpetrator to justice and restored trust within the community.
