Gymnasts represent Ekurhuleni at championships

Last year, at SA Gym Games, the three girls became SA champions in three categories.

Local gymnasts Bailey Maré, Dené Greyvenstein and Mackenzie Mackay were recently crowned Gauteng champion again.

The girls represented Ekurhuleni in the Gauteng Acrobatic Championships on August 2.

With excitement in the air, the trio competed under the Masters Gymnasts Club from Highway Gardens.

In the light of their recent success, Maré, Greyvenstein and Mackay are brimming with pride and happiness.

Mackay said being the youngest trio, in the 12 to 18 years age category and still placing first is a great achievement.

“I am looking forward to competing in Cape Town at such a high level,” she said.

“I am delighted we are the Gauteng Champions for level 12 and excited and thrilled that the hard work is paying off,” said Greyvenstein.

She said the last time she competed in Cape Town she was level four in a women’s pair.

“I was a top and now in a base, which is a huge achievement,” she said.

Maré who loves competing, especially at large competitions, said the events allow the group to present all they learned through the year.

“Winning the level 12 Gauteng Championships was so exciting,” she said.

“I believe we have the perfect trio and the best team of coaches, parents and supporters.”

Maré said the group’s hard work was starting to pay off.

“I will continue to give 101% because I want to represent South Africa with pride at the world events,” she added.
Last year, at the SA Gym Games, the three girls became SA champions in three categories.

They competed at the South African Champions in level 9. This year they have moved up three levels.

They look forward to competing against other gymnasts who have proven themselves previously in level 12.

Kimbal Maré said this would not be the group’s first year competing in level 12.

She said the gymnasts know that the competition would be tough but they will be ready.

Leading up to the SA Gym Games in September, Maré, Greyvenstein and Mackay will continue to follow a rigorous training program laid out by their coaches.
