Germiston Red Cross marks World Red Day

“Despite the long-standing history of the Germiston branch, responsible for the management of Elandsvallei Home for the Aged, it is experiencing difficulties with unsettled municipal electricity accounts.”

Red Cross Germiston celebrated World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, recognised on May 8.
In observance of the day, volunteers, employees, and members of the South African Red Cross Society (Sarcs) and the Global Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement came together.
Jannie Potgieter was recognised for more than 50 years of voluntary service at the Germiston branch.
The Germiston branch also participated in the celebration, themed Keeping humanity alive.
“We also celebrate SA’s 30 years of democracy. Our unceasing efforts, empathy, and fortitude sustain the human soul and give it vitality. Daily, we are the change agents, offering support and encouragement throughout peaceful and chaotic periods,” said the manager of the Germiston branch, Barbara Jansen.
Despite the festivities, Jansen continued, “Despite the long-standing history of the Germiston branch, responsible for the management of Elandsvallei Home for the Aged, it is experiencing difficulties with unsettled municipal electricity accounts.
“The rising living expense and a lack of resources for social development contribute to these difficulties. To continue providing effective care for the elderly, we would be grateful for any help,” said Jansen.
