A fire engulfed the iconic Pure & Cool Roadhouse in Malvern East on April 24, triggering an outpouring of nostalgia from locals who fondly recalled cherished memories of the establishment on social media.

As plumes of smoke billowed into the sky, authorities swiftly issued a cautionary advisory, urging the public to steer clear of the area to facilitate firefighting operations and prioritise safety.

The roadhouse holds a special place in the hearts of many, serving as a backdrop for countless gatherings and cherished moments.

Amidst the chaos, residents took to social media platforms to reminisce about their experiences at the beloved roadhouse.

“What a waste. This roadhouse is one of the oldest standing and no lie – their dagwoods were amazing back in the day. What a pity,” lamented Fatima Carreira Brites.

Echoing similar sentiments, Charmaine de Bruin fondly remembered that they had the best-toasted chicken mayo and Horlicks.

The cause of the fire was unknown at the time of going to print.
