Programme aims to combat social ills in Dukathole

“Facing the struggles endured by young girls, including teenage pregnancy, rape, and abuse, is truly disheartening."

In the heart of the Dukathole informal settlement, the Malibelinye Community Service continues its mission to combat social ills and poverty with impactful projects.

Spearheaded by director Alex Xakambana, the organisation is committed to addressing the pressing challenges faced by young people, particularly girls, in their community.

“Facing the struggles endured by young girls, including teenage pregnancy, rape, and abuse, is truly disheartening,” expressed Xakambana.

“At Malibelinye, we aim to provide support and resources to empower these girls to envision a brighter future for themselves.”

In collaboration with the Department of Education, the organisation hosted the Miss Germiston pageant on April 3.

The event served as a platform to inspire, uplift, and instil confidence in the participants.

Xakambana explained, “Our goal was to emphasise to the girls that they are beautiful and deserving. Education is the key to realising their dreams.”

Several schools in Germiston participated in the pageant, including Ekurhuleni Primary, Galway Primary, Ekukhanyeni Primary, Dinwiddie High School, Sekutlong Secondary School, and Laerskool Germiston.

The pageant featured junior and senior categories, with winners receiving valuable prizes such as tablets, laptops, and phones.

The Miss Germiston pageant marks the organisation’s second iteration, with plans to establish it as an annual event.
