Dinwiddie residents still battle with power outages and surges

The residents said they are tired of living in fear of losing more food and appliances.

Dinwiddie residents suffer the effects of the unstable power supply as they continue losing appliances and food because of power outages and surges.

The residents demand accountability from the CoE.

“We cannot go on living like this. Food is already expensive, and the cost of living, generally. But the city seems not to care because they take the sweet time to attend to the power issue in Dinwiddie,” said resident Wendy Tolkin.

“Just over three weeks ago, a couple of houses in Dinwiddie did not have power for 10 days. They did not have power again on March 3.

“These prolonged power outages are affecting our lives. Children are in the middle of exams, we have elderly living in the area, and we are losing food we cannot afford to replace,” said Tolkin.

She said what worries them most is that when the power returns, it causes more problems because of the voltage issues that damage appliances.

“Several people lost many appliances, and gate motors and cameras were damaged. Some insurance is not willing to pay,” she said.

She said the CoE must tell residents what it will do to resolve the electricity problems.

“We cannot keep replacing and losing food because of the city’s incompetence. Someone needs to be held accountable for all these damages,” said Tolkin.

She said the city does not care about its residents.

“When the electrician came on March 3, they said they were doing a temporary fix, and we now live in fear over what the cost of a temporary fix will cost us.

“I have been sending emails to the city with no luck of a clear answer of when they will come and fix the temporary fix.

“We need a permanent fix to ensure our power supply is proper and that we will not lose any appliances,” said Tolkin.

GCN sent an enquiry to the CoE questioning why the city has not tended to the Dinwiddie power issues and residents’ grievances.

The deadline for comment was March 11 and 12:00.
