Dawnview High learner prepares for karate competitions

Ntokozo is a second purple belt holder and a SA SKA Championship bronze winner.

Ntokozo Mfandelani, a Grade 11 Dawnview High School learner, has her eyes set on karate competitions.

The 16-year-old lass will be competing in the U15-U17 division in the Unison Kata competition.

This will be the Cobras Shotokan Karate dojo all styles team competitions, which will be hosted on March 9 in Alberton.

Ntokozo started karate three years ago to improve her health status after being diagnosed with asthma.
Soon after joining the karate club, her mother also joined the dojo.

“Me and my mother used to do sparring together before I graded. She is a heavy hitter and it was fun sparring with her.

“Karate helps you build character and discipline. I have also seen an increase in my academics since doing karate,” she said.

Ntokozo is a second purple belt holder and a SA SKA Championships bronze winner.

“Last year I competed at the SA SKA National Championships on September 23 in Brakpan indoor sports centre. I won a bronze medal in kumite (fighting),” said Ntokozo.
