Hospice East Rand invites locals for training

Hospice East Rand will additionally host several five-day courses that consist of an introduction to Palliative Care for Carers.

Hospice East Rand is committed to providing comprehensive training opportunities for those passionate about making a difference in people’s lives.

“Whether you are a seasoned carer, a healthcare professional, or a spiritual leader, our range of workshops and courses offer valuable insights and practical skills to support individuals and families during challenging times with a life-threatening illness,” said Jonquil Siepman, marketing and media liaison for Hospice East Rand.

The Hospice offers one-day workshops:

• Spiritual Palliative Care Workshop: Aimed at spiritual leaders and counsellors the course takes place on March 14 and offers a transformative one-day workshop focusing on spiritual palliative care. Gain valuable insights and tools to provide holistic support during difficult times.

• Palliative Care Workshop for Carers: This workshop is aimed at caregivers or family members looking after a loved one. The one-day workshop will take place on April 17 and participants will learn essential skills and strategies to enhance their caregiving journey and provide the best possible support.

• Hopeful Grieving and Bereavement Workshop: Navigating grief can be overwhelming, but you don’t have to do it alone. Join Hospice East Rand on October 9 for a special workshop tailored for bereaved family members, caregivers, spiritual leaders, and counsellors.

“Our five-day course, scheduled for April 8 to 12, July 15 to 19, or October 14 to 18 is tailored to equip trained home-based carers, community workers, nursing assistants, and social workers with essential knowledge and skills in palliative care,” said Siepman.

Another course on offer is the Introduction to Palliative Care for Health Professionals.

“Join us for our specialised five-day course on May 13 to 17, August 26 to 30, or November 18 to 22. The course is designed for medical officers, professional nurses, clinical nurse practitioners, and allied workers seeking to enhance their palliative care expertise.”

Siepman added that East Rand Hospice also offers full-time Home-Based Personal Care Worker courses.
The courses are aimed at those passionate about providing compassionate care.

“Our 12-month programme prepares you with five knowledge modules, six practical modules, and eight workplace experience modules.”

Registration closes on June 30 and the course commences on September 2.
