City encourages self-love in marking the month of love

Regular health checks are a form of love language.

As February is the month of love, the CoE encourages residents to embrace and practice self-love by making regular clinic visits a habit.

“Taking care of your overall health is a love language to self, which starts with an annual or quarterly check-up to help detect conditions before they become serious,” said the head of department for health and community services, Dr Gilbert Motlatla.

“We have observed that the top five health conditions patients are often diagnosed with are preventable, such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, cholesterol, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS.

“When detected early enough, these conditions can be treated effectively,” said Motlatla.

He encouraged residents to visit their nearest clinic for an overall health assessment and not to wait until an illness has advanced.

The services offered free of charge at the healthcare facilities in the city include:

• Nutrition, maternal and child healthcare services, contraceptives, and a fertility clinic, antenatal care, postnatal care;

• Expanded programme on immunisation, outbreak response and adolescent and youth-friendly service;

• Curative and chronic care, including mental health services; and

• Therapeutic services offered by the Gauteng Provincial Health Department: dental and eye care, rehabilitation and psychosocial therapy.
